I am so happy to share my debut EP of electronic music.

On December 4th the desire to release music before year’s end came over me.
For a while I’d been wanting to create electronic music and saw this as the perfect opportunity. Armed with a basic sixty-one-key keyboard, my upright and electric basses, a ZOOM H6, some shakers, and Logic Pro X I worked diligently for two weeks straight. The results are five tracks I’m very excited to share with you all.

“Sea Shanty 2” pays homage to my favorite video game of all time, Runescape. The version on this EP is a cover of the most bumping song in the game. I highly recommended exploring all the memes about this jingle. One of my favorite quirks of the whole EP is the bar of 9 tucked away in this track.

The title track “La Tierra Se Está Doblando” is a phrase in Spanish that essentially translates to “the world is folding in on itself.” I know I’m not the only one who feels this way about how much life has changed this year. To create a subtle sense of dismantling, the track alternates between 4:4 and 6:4 time.

Track three pays tribute to my love of Burning Man. Though I wasn’t able to make it out to the playa this year, I was able to recruit my dear friend and fellow Dumpling Paul Theodore Chandler to lay down some trumpet on this track. I’ve found myself listening to the latter half of this song on repeat, reveling in the jubilant energy.

“Two Shakes” was the first track I worked on for this project. With this tune, and the previous tracks as well, the goal was to create something I’d want to wiggle around to. I hope that as you listen you’ll also find yourself shaking a tail feather or two.

In the process of creating this EP, I didn’t want to imply my emotional state has been as bouncy and joyous as the other tracks imply. I wanted to capture the grief I have felt throughout this immensely difficult year. Some days the emotions well up so much that the day becomes reserved for tears. Each day has either been a complete struggle, or just barely holding my head above water. I’m not sure where I’d be right now if not for the support of my angelic wife Kathryn and friends who are here to support my growth.
So here’s to the days and years ahead, may they be gentle and healing.

Brief note about the cover art:
JC Franco and I partnered to come up with this design of the Earth as a vector equilibrium. This shape is one of the most stable shapes in mathematics and plays a very interesting role in the field of sacred geometry. Buckminster Fuller and Nassim Harramein have a ton of resources on the geometry of this shape (check out Fuller’s book “Synergetics: Explorations in the Geometry of Thinking”).
I enjoy the irony of the title implying chaos, while the shape implies stability.
